Delhi University Issues Anti-ragging Guidelines For Freshers Ahead of Reopening Colleges As UG Classes To Begin Soon

Delhi University (DU) issued anti-anger guidelines on Thursday 18th November 2021. These guidelines are proposed by the Delhi University Planning Committee for new postgraduate students. The university(s) has instructed the universities to place sealed complaint boxes in front of the rectorate. For new students, some colleges have established an orientation program to familiarize them with their particular college, faculty, campus, and other aspects of the department. Miranda House has announced that it will be holding its orientation online on November 20, 2021. In this online mode, students are given a virtual tour of the university. The Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Indraprastha College For Women (IP College), Gargi College, and Ramanujan College have all announced that they will all hold their respective orientations on November 22, 2021. The Anti-Ragging Policy highlighted that the Director of Institutions may designate a Disciplinary Resource Person (DRP) at any DU college, hostel, hall, department, and campus. It also states that contact details and other important details must be shared with students from the supervisor's office. Prominent Policies of the University of Delhi: “Institutions may place appropriate billboards/banners/banners in prominent locations within each campus to exhort students to discourage or not indulge in rags… Along with the DRP, senior teachers, NCC/NSS officers, if any, and senior students may participate to form a university/faculty/department-level Disciplinary Resource Committee (DRC)/Disciplinary Committee,” the guidelines state. “Locked grievance boxes will be placed in front of the Rectorate, particularly in those universities that have emergency shelters, for the benefit of potential victims of irregularities to submit their grievances/suggestions to the university authorities. Officials at each university who are entrusted with responsibility will investigate such complaints and take any necessary action in a timely manner consistent with university policy," the guidelines read. The facility must be strictly regulated by verifying the IDs carried by the students. Security guards and other related personnel may be employed to enforce such regulated access. From time to time, this security personnel can organize surprise raids in canteens/canteen/dormitories/student union buildings together with guards. Rooms/common areas/parking lots etc.” says the DU guide. The orientation programs of some other universities and degree programs provide their own orientation event in the freshmen's department.
